Historic King William District – In San Antonio, An Elegant Victorian German Neighborhood

The Beautiful King William Neighborhood

Near Downtown San Antonio, diagonally across from the Hemisfair site, is located the King William Historic District. A Victorian-inspired neighborhood filled with the history and charm of wonderful old gingerbread homes. In the mid-1800s, enterprising moneyed German immigrants began buying land and building grand and modest homes in the area. The main thoroughfare was named King William, in honor of “King Wilhelm I of Prussia”, and King William remains the area’s name, today. In July of 2011, the Texas Commission on the Arts designated the King William neighborhood to be an Official Protected Cultural Arts District.
