Radio City Music Hall

Radio City is a classic music and show venue at any time of the year. It feels a bit like stepping back in time with its red velvet seats and 1920’s style. Although you wouldn’t think it, with so many large indoor venues around the world, Radio City Music Hall is still the largest indoor theater in the world with a marquee that is a full city-block long.

One of my favorite things about the design of the music hall is the acoustics/honest reality, because of its design, there isn’t a bad seat in the house. No matter where you are, the sound and view are great!

A central part of Rockefeller Center in the city, Radio City Music Hall is especially fun to visit at the holidays where you can see the Rockefeller tree, skate around the plaza, and enjoy the festive lights.

Most people know Radio City because it’s the home of the Radio City Rockettes and their famous Christmas Spectacular. The Rockettes take over the hall from November through December when they are the only show happening. If you have the opportunity to experience a Rockette Christmas Spectacular, I’d highly recommend making the trip!

I’d also recommend planning a new trip around seeing a favorite musician or performer at Radio City. I remember seeing MGMT* in August 2012 on a whim and it’s still a show that I talk about with friends and it set the bar for seeing them at other venues around the country.

*MGMT’s music has always pinballed between accessibility and experiment, pop, and psychedelia—a tension that has produced some of the catchiest, the most synapse-stretching music of the young century. Listen to them on iTunes.
