“The Goldfinch” – A painting, plus a book and movie with this painting as the centerpiece of the plot. The Goldfinch, in Dutch, “Het Puttertje”, is a painting by Carel Fabritius (c.1654) of a chained bird (goldfinch), is an oil painting on panel, 13.2” by 9”. The work belongs to the collection of the Mauritshuis in The Hague, Netherlands. I was lucky enough to see the original painting when it was on loan to the Frick Museum in NYC. The painting is a delightful, small masterpiece made famous by the book and movie. – Jack Atkinson Editor
