Pearl of San Antonio – A Wonderful New Urban Neighborhood is Created

PEARL DISTRICT

The Pearl Complex is about a mile north of downtown.

San Antonio’s Pearl District – The Pearl Brewery operated out of this location from 1883 to 2001. For years after the brewery closed, the buildings were left to rust and ruin and the open land became empty fields of tall yellow grass.

Over the past decade, architects and planners have taken the Pearl Brewery campus and made it into the “coolest” neighborhood in San Antonio. The buildings have been repurposed and transformed into a place where everyone wants to hangout. The old bottling plant is now a Food Hall, with many food options and the main building is now “Hotel Emma”. New chef-owned restaurants, independent shops, for books, coffee, and cocktail bars have filled all of the spaces on the property. Condominiums have been built and rental apartments, too.

Rejuvenation has made “The Pearl” into one of San Antonio’s most desirable places to live, work and play, and it’s also located on the Riverwalk extension.
