My Favorite Designer: Cartier

Jellewry ring like leopard's head

In the world of jewelry, Cartier is a household name. Founded in 1847 in Paris by Louis-François Cartier, they are known for their classic designs featuring expensive gemstones and precious metals. In 1914, Cartier produced their first iconic Panthère brooch, designed in the shape of a panther and covered in pave diamonds and gems. The Panthère became the symbol most associated with the design house, and new Panthère pieces are produced every year.

This jewelry is often commissioned by the world’s royalty for coronations and state occasions, and purchasers have included Wallis Simpson, King Edward VII of England, the Maharaja of Patiala, and Princess Grace of Monaco.

Most people will recognize their Love Bracelet, and even more regularly accessible are Cartier’s perfumes. While perfume is not jewelry, the bottles are certainly art. I adore the scent of their signature La Panthére perfume for women. The crystal glass bottle has the iconic panther face carved into the interior of the bottle.
