EDITOR’S HELLO

I am leaning toward winter as being my favorite season, because of snow! How I wonder at the delicate shapes of snowflakes — they look as if they have been carved out of ice. No doubt about it, snow is one of nature’s most wonderful creations.

Ever since childhood, I have so enjoyed snow and watching it drift down from the overcast sky above, especially to see how dramatic it looked at night when illuminated only by a street light. There are so many beautiful memories my family has of us playing in the snow during our youth. In the mid-south, it only snowed two or three times a year, so my brother, sister, and I were always delighted when we woke up to see snow covering the world outside our bedroom windows.

We made snowmen and had the most amazing adventures sledding down the steep hill that defined our neighborhood. Those snow days made for some of the happiest times of our childhood. We barely even noticed how cold we were, the only thing we cared about was whose turn it was to sled down our steep hill.

The dozen or so winter’s snow we witnessed during our formative years created many of the most cherished memories for all kids in our neighborhood–a time when “having fun” was our only concern!

I hope you have fond memories of snow days from your childhood, also!

Until later,
