Mid-Century Walk-Up Burger Joints Preceded Fast Food Chains

Old School Drive-Ins where you got out of the car and walked up to a window to order, can still be found in off the beaten path in America.

On a recent road trip through middle America we were on the hunt for mom & pop – hole-in-the-wall eateries. This is where everything is real and the person cooking the food often owns the establishment. At this roadside Kream Kastle, the food was so good, made to order, and packed with people. It was located along the side of a busy highway, but when it was built the road was two lanes and the speeds were slower.

For the half-hour we were there I saw so many smiles on adults and children alike as they ordered their comfort food they were seeking! – Jack Atkinson Founder, Editor of ARTSandFOOD.com Magazine
