MY FAVORITE HOTEL / The Hudson, NYC

FIRST PERSON: by Jack Atkinson

An energetic social hub filled with urban adventure and daredevil design, The Hudson NYC takes convention and turns it on its head. Born from the innovative vision of design impresario Philippe Starck, Hudson, a New York boutique hotel, is stylish, democratic, young at heart and utterly cool. Best places to hang: Umami Burger, the new flagship location serving gourmet burgers, fries and cocktails; Hudson Bar, a quintessential New York cocktail bar and lounge; Sky Terrace (open seasonally), an English garden with breathtaking views of New York City; and Private Park, a garden oasis in the middle of a bustling city. Located in midtown, just steps from Central Park, Columbus Circle, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Time Warner Center and the theater district.

The standard room at the Hudson are tastefully executed but are very cosy and intimate (small). This hotel is built around its public spaces, the bedrooms are for sleeping and romance.

If you are an art lover, you will love the Hudson Hotel. All of the public spaces are dripping with contemporary art and design. The standard room is small because the Hudson was at one time a dormitory. But you can upgrade, there are suites and larger studios which are roomier options. Enjoy the public spaces, they are the reason for staying in this very cool and centrally located hotel. (Located at 9th Ave. & 58th St. – 358 West 58th Street, New York, NY 10019 • phone 212 554 6000)

Reminiscent of an old English club or drawing room, Library Bar at Hudson New York is the perfect cozy hangout for relaxing by the enormous fireplace, chatting and drinking with friends, shooting billiards, playing a computer game, or reading a book from its extensive collection, including topics ranging from film, theater, fashion and art, to travel and politics. An artful blend of old and new, Library Bar features an antique billiards table, classic English leather sofas and wing chairs, and antique area rugs.

Introducing The Assouline Book Collection at Library Bar. Two visionary lifestyle companies, sbe and Assouline, have created a one-of-a-kind library experience in the iconic space. The carefully curated library focuses on photography books from the worlds of art, fashion, travel and design- displaying Assouline’s approach to culture, luxury and lifestyle. Inspired by Assouline’s Tequila Cockails book, Library Bar features a selection of tequila creations.
